Il mwhgFiume Beck prese il nome dalla città. La parola Beck significa anche "striscia" in mwhwmedio inglese. Molti reputano John Cator come colui che ha trasformato Beckenham da villaggio a città importante alla fine del mwiqXVIII secolo.
